Be InspiRED, Keep A Child Alive & Don't Give Up (Africa)
Bono and his RED campaign, Oprah's show and her Angel Network and Alicia Keys' Keep a Child Alive cause...
"(RED) was created by Bono and Bobby Shriver, Chairman of DATA to raise awareness and money for The Global Fund by teaming up with the world's most iconic brands to produce (PRODUCT)RED branded products. A percentage of each (PRODUCT)RED product sold is given to The Global Fund. The money helps women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.
What's the meaning of the parentheses or brackets? Well, we call them "the embrace." Each company that becomes (RED) places its logo in this embrace and is then elevated to the power of red. Thus the name -- (PRODUCT)RED.
Alicia Keys, a singer, songwriter and a nine-time Grammy® winner has taken the continent of Africa into her heart in a very big way. Through her involvement with the organization "Keep A Child Alive", Alicia learned that in some cases an African child who has HIV can be helped with as little as $1 a day. With the proper medication and treatment, AIDS-infected adults can also live longer, fuller lives.
"AIDS is 25 years old. I'm 25 years old. There are 25 million [people] already dead," she says. "There is no reason why we can't join together and realize that this is something we have to do. … On behalf of them, let me be their voice and say that there's so much more to do."
And here's the Don't Give Up (Africa) which Bono & Alicia perform so beautifully together...

Oh…..
In this proud land we grew up strong
We were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail
No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
But no one wants you when you lose
Don't give up
'Cause you have friends
Don't give up
You're not beaten yet
Don't give up
I know you can make it good
(na na na na na na na na na na na no)
Though I saw it all around
Never thought I could be affected
Thought that we would be, the last to go
It is so strange the way things turn
Drove the night toward my home
The place that I was born, out on the lakeside
The daylight broke, I saw the earth
The trees had burned down to the ground
Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up
We don't need much of anything, no no no
Don't give up
'Cause somewhere there's a place
Where we belong
Rest your head
You worry too much
It's going to be alright
When times get rough
You can fall back on us
Don't give up
Please don't give up, (yeah)
Got to walk out of here (hey)
I can't take anymore
Gonna stand on that bridge
Keep my eyes down below
Whatever may come
Whatever may go
That river's flowing
That river's flowing
Don't give up
'Cause you have friends
Don't give up
You're not the only one… no no no no no no no no no
Don't give up
There’s no reason to be ashamed
Don't give up
You still, you still have us
I believe, you and me
That somewhere
There’s a place…
Where we belong
(na na na na na na na na na na na no)
Af-ri-ca…
Af-ri-ca…

Hi Darina,
Thanks for sharing information about these worthy causes :-)
Peace, happiness, and joy right back at you,
Donna
Great timing! It's time to upgrade my poor misused phone next month and even though I was thinking a pink Razor would be cool, I now think a (red) motorala will be even better!
all praises where praise is due, including giving credit to the creator of that beautiful, kind, loving song. it was written by Peter Gabriel.
Thank YOU Donna, Ayla and Mary,
More praise to Peter Gabriel indeed for as much as the lyrics are moving, the rendition is soul shaking and the impact - immeasurable…And RED was the color of the forthcoming season but now thanks to this conscious camapign it will have a much deeper meaning and will shine forth so much brighter and happier.
More blessings and Joy to you and all of us,
Darina :)
Ayla - that sounds like a cool, sexy and meaningful little gadget - share the loof & feel of it… :)
