I choose to share these photographs for they are shocking and moving. They highlight the awful disease XDR -TB, a new and deadly form of tuberculosis that is threatening to become a global pandemic.
By viewing and passing on this link we can help to spread awareness, which is the first step to halting the disease. XDRTB.ORG (http://www.xdrtb.org/)
This is a race between the ability of a deadly, mutated bacteria to spread, and our ability to spread awareness first. Health authorities know what needs to be done, but politicians and the public at large don't have XDR-TB on their radar.
That's what James Nachtwey's powerful TED Prize wish is all about.
Tonight, and over the next few days his breath-taking pictures are being projected at scale in public places in some 50 cities all over the world. Details are here under 'Where to Watch'. If you are lucky to be in one of those locations and can actually watch them live - please share the experience with us.
Time magazine is running a 7-page, cover-promoted feature in all of its global editions published today. Many other media are on board to support the effort, including Boston Globe, The London Observer, Youtube, and Wired.com.
XDR-TB. 37 photographs. 3 minutes. Millions of lives to save.
The next step is yours. Everyone is invited to spread the word. You can forward this blog, write, broadcast, talk with your family, friends and networks. You can quickly add your name to the advocacy effort by clicking the 'Sign' button here.
Let’s support this worthy cause and bold wish and make a real difference for all the XDRTB victims.

Several more important facts about XDR-TB.
Though curable, TB is the leading infectious killer of adults in the world after HIV/AIDS. The disease claims 1.7 million lives each year. Presidential initiatives on HIV/AIDS and malaria have brought needed attention and resources to the fight against those diseases. The same response is needed to stop TB.
The letter sent today to many policy makers asks that a presidential TB initiative include expanded access to treatment, better coordination of HIV/AIDS and TB services, scaled-up efforts to address emerging drug-resistant forms of TB, full funding of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, and full funding of recently passed legislation authorizing $4 billion for TB programs over five years.
