TED's 10 Commandments - Gr8t For ANY Speakers

Posted on May 26th, 2009 by Joy Bringer : Visionary Creator & Artivist Joy Bringer
Tedcommandments
For your reading ease, the 10 TED Commandments are:

Thou shalt not simply trot out thy usual shtick
Thou shalt dream a great dream, or show forth a wondrous new thing, or share something thou hast never shared before
Thou shalt reveal thy curiosity and thy passion
Thou shalt tell a story
Thou shalt freely comment on the utterances of other speakers for the sake of blessed connection and exquisite controversy
Thou shalt not flaunt thine Ego. Be thou vulnerable. Speak of thy failure as well as thy success.
Thou shalt not sell from the stage: neither thy company, thy goods, thy writings, nor thy desparate need for funding; lest thou be cast aside into outer darkness.
Thou shalt remember all the while: laughter is good.
Thou shalt not read thy speech.
Thou shalt not steal the time of them that follow thee.

Whether you're speaking at TED or elsewhere, these are certainly worth following. :)

I like especially this:

Thou shalt not sell from the stage: neither thy company, thy goods, thy writings, nor thy desparate need for funding; lest thou be cast aside into outer darkness.

To be honest:

often this is my feeling about TED speakers. They are pitching every second sentence and gesture they make..:):)

The 10 commandements were received and announced by Moses(MOshe.
However he saw God in the burning Dornbusch before. What do the guys at TED see?

Danke Albert, It seems that is the commandment that gets the least amount of ab/use :)
I am still envisioning the next level of TED where from 'Ideas worth Sharing' it will rise to “Actions Worth Spreading” & even working to help it get there… Would love your opinion/feedback on that/those!

Thanks Nicole - wonderful spreader of ideas & actions. What a great thread & discussion that is. Glad to contribute through you & more.

Action worth spreading:

lets say sustainable action rooted in the respective cultures!

As they touch the theme this year “Substance of things untangible” they can finally open their eyes to cultural codes and existential challenges .I see Parag Khanna this year on speakers list. Hopefully he can tell them whats moving in the world in toto.

I would apreciate too when more local TED Forums emerge as this november in India for example. Or they invite some Filipinos from the Whynot Forum.

Spiral Dynmaics Integral and the Center for Human Emergence have understood and apply already. While the constellations are global, local nodes in diverse countries with people from exactly these cultures make the difference!

Would be interesting to elaborate new 10 commandements in THIS direction.):)

Thanks Robert for the additional links.

Instead of more 10 commandements, Darina, I suggest this from Mother Theresa:

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.

Best,

Albert

Yes, Albert, Mother Teresa's list was SO right!

I used to love hearing the many speeches from TED's meetings but that was when I could afford DSL, now I get an interrupted sentence every minute with my stupid dial-up. Maybe next year I'll afford DSL again…yes, they should never go on stage there to sell anything but themselves & their 'better world' ideas.

Its a great idea, TED to influence so many gifted people to come together to help us all. Also there is a yearly event in DuBui where the person (s) with the best idea for sustainability gets a winning prize of over $100,000. I wrote about it in my college Environmenatl Science class and read about it to our local town councilmen who seem to want nothing but change our peaceful rural desert into a hostile city and destroy our ancient native plants here in the desert. Now that they have run out of water for further new development (I have 20 empty & foreclosed homes on my street) so now we are fighting them against their plans of stealing our water by annexation (what Hitler did in Europe on a more violent scale).
