Living in Joy by Suzanne Roloff

Our lives are meant to be filled with happiness and joy…this is our birthright; for all of us. Joy and happiness are meant to be experienced now. Make a conscious choice to start and end your day with joy to start with. Most of us are so busy and thinking of so many things not of joy and worrying about things that never happen everyday that we completely miss out on the joy and happiness in our life. Take more of those moments filled with joy and happiness; seize them, look for them, expect them, and I guarantee you, you will start to live a joy filled life. You will come to expect it and you will find it in your everyday experiences without looking for it.

Most of us are used to the opposite of joy; we are used to the pain and the struggle and the hardships in life and that is what we focus on and expect. Start to break that pattern in your life. Notice something in your house that really brings you joy everyday; then notice something close to where you live in nature that you see that brings you joy every day, then notice something about yourself that brings you joy, and then about others, and on and on until you start to see the joy in many things and people in your life. Instead of spending time worrying about what “might” happen, spend that time letting yourself feel joyful about something.

It is easy to get stuck in the same old ruts and same patterns that keep repeating in our lives every day. If this sounds familiar, then you need to make different choices and do something different then what you are doing every day. What is that saying? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting a different result…. If we keep making the same choices, our life will be the same, if we choose different choices, it can be different, it is up to us.
Sometimes in order to let something new or different into your life, you have to be willing to let go of something old or that is not working for you. Be willing to give up what is not working for you and try something new or different. Just be willing and open to change and the process will start. Do one thing differently each day, even it is getting up or going to bed at a different time, or taking a different route to work or fixing a different meal. Plant the seeds of change, and know that change is always available to you and you always have a choice. That was one of the most important light bulb moments of my life, realizing that we always, always have a choice, no matter what. Each day we can choose to make different choices in our lives.

Find out what you love to do, what brings you a feeling of joy, peace, and happiness and be in that space as much as you possibly can. If you are so out of touch with any of these feelings that you don’t know what would bring you peace or joy, let yourself think back to your childhood or a time in your life where you did feel these things. Start with what makes you feel good and let yourself do or experience that each day, even if it is for a few minutes and then build on that each day. Put this together with noticing things in your environment or about yourself or others that make you smile or bring you joy. You will soon find that you are not looking for this but it is all around you.
Especially at first if you are not used to these feelings, you may need to make a conscious effort or intention to feel and find joy each day. Like attracts like; what you put out comes back to you. If you are feeling sad and lonely, you need to choose to make a conscious effort to feel otherwise. If you are feeling lack and concentrating on what you don’t have, start with one thing you are grateful for in your life that you do have and build on that.

Here are a few suggestions to help you create happiness and joy so it starts to become a familiar state in your day to day life:

• Let go of judgment, resentment, criticism, unforgiveness, and blame; focus on your own life and your own path; let others have their own experiences and lessons and focus on your own (it simplifies your life greatly)
• Practice random acts of kindness or giving without the person knowing you have done it
• Replace every negative thought and emotion you can with a positive one; try to get in the habit of always doing this, catch yourself with every negative thought and replace it with a positive one
• Get in touch with a Higher Power than yourself each day, look at the big picture in life and don’t sweat the small stuff
• Stay in the now…let the future be the future and the past be the past, learn to live in the now as much as you can
• Give some service or something of yourself to someone that is more needy than yourself (there is always someone else worse off)
• Pray, meditate, go within, and get “quiet” every day; listen to what your higher self wants and needs
• Feel gratitude for something and someone every day; make a list if you can of what you are thankful for each day, just start with one person and one thing you are grateful for each day and build on that; you can also add one thing about yourself that you are grateful for each day.

Be open to miracles and good things happening in your life; believe this is so and expect it. Change your thinking each day from low vibrational energy of pain and struggle and expecting the worst to higher vibrational energy of grace and joy and ease and expecting the best.

Notice what you see in the world, what you see in yourself and what you see in others; notice who you spend time with, how much of your time each day is doing what you should or are supposed to do? How much of this do you enjoy and is actually for your higher good? Do you know how to put yourself first? Give to yourself? Do you believe you deserve to feel joy and happiness? Are you focused on other’s lives and how to fix them and not your own?

You can change your life by the thoughts you think each day. Do you watch the news and read the paper and think of how awful the world is each day? Stop doing that... Don’t watch the news (I guarantee that if something happens you should know about you will find out); read an uplifting book or meditate or take a walk instead, play with an animal or a child or do something for someone else instead; focus on the positive things in your life and in the world (there are always some), choose positive thoughts, people, and laughter as often as you can.

How much joy and happiness do you think you deserve in your life? Think about it….how much joy will you allow yourself? It is up to you to ask yourself this every day…….what you focus on becomes your life and reality.

If you focus on a life of joy and ease and grace, then that is what you will have…..start a life of this for yourself now, there is no better time on the planet to do this….the planet needs us to do this now, it is what we came here for in this lifetime….to find our joy and live our purpose…. the time is now…we are living in miraculous times….choose joy…choose happiness…choose unconditional love…forgiveness…compassion…choose to shift the vibrations of the planet and yourself now.

Everyone is capable of making this shift of bringing more joy into their life and just think how this would transform the planet! Why not start today?

Something Helpless that Wants Our Help...~ Rainer Maria Rilke

Just watched a quite dark, existential, weird and multi-layered movie - "Synecdoche, New York", 2008 by Charlie Kaufman that stirred many thoughts, feelings and beliefs. Sharing some intense excerpts here even if they are out of context... Seeing & experiencing the whole movie is probably needed yet I felt the need/urge/desire to share these as they are in text format first...

"What was once before you - an exciting, mysterious future - is now behind you. Lived; understood; disappointing. You realize you are not special. You have struggled into existence, and are now slipping silently out of it. This is everyone's experience. Every single one. The specifics hardly matter. Everyone's everyone. So you are Adele, Hazel, Claire, Olive. You are Ellen. All her meager sadnesses are yours; all her loneliness; the gray, straw-like hair; her red raw hands. It's yours. It is time for you to understand this. Walk. As the people who adore you stop adoring you; as they die; as they move on; as you shed them; as you shed your beauty; your youth; as the world forgets you; as you recognize your transience; as you begin to lose your characteristics one by one; as you learn there is no-one watching you, and there never was, you think only about driving - not coming from any place; not arriving any place. Depressing and nihilistic as those beliefs might sound, the film is perplexing and life affirming in its own way. It suggests that too many of us spend too much time trying to make sense of the world and not enough time living in it. We pull back in loneliness and fear when faced with things bigger than ourselves rather than turning to those who can actually help, namely the ones with whom we share our time on this planet...

Imagine yourself really getting sick of lying

Of totally procrastinating and pretending

So you finally choose to take a day off

Not a sick one, but an honest day off

You fill all the forms well in advance

Citing the real reason for the absence

Instead of hiding behind tendonitis

Honestly citing - your pretendinitis

The truth spreads faster than rumor

All your colleagues retweet the humor

Your boss texts you that you are daring

All your friends dig how you are baring

Even your doctor calls to share

How brave of you was to declare

Having Honesty Deficiency Disorder

And no illusions of being all in order

A disease so common and ignored

And deliberately kept off the record

Shifts from chasing hidden suspects

To looking openly for study subjects

You feel suddenly lighthearted

Void of guilt and utterly delighted

So much that you feel adventuresome

To self-diagnose your Bullshit Syndrome

Having started a super chain reaction

Causing massive waves of truth in action

You witness shocking web interaction

That brings startling self-satisfaction

Employers, cops and doctors alike

Now offer cool tips on how to strike

Politicians confess for the epidemics

While comedians juice the new polemics

Pretendinitis gets such huge popularity

That it gets declared a holiday for posterity

You turn in the newest celebrity for sincerity

Winning stunning prosperity for such hilarity

Are we willing to be absolutely alone and out of relationship?

Are we ready to realize that our fulfillment does not lie only in each other?

Are we able to live our commitment to the truth, inside and outside?

Can we discover fully ourselves alone AND together and the love within AND surrounding us in a never-ending relationship and interconnectedness?

Can we really let ourselves overflow & let love?

Gangaji:

In order for each of us to be here we had to be willing to be absolutely alone and out of relationship and to recognize that our fulfillment did not lie in each other. It is really alive, here. And the relationship it is a great bounty to that, but not necessary to that. And that’s part of our relationship and is designed to teach you. And I am glad you are inspired by it but I don’t want the inspiration to be (don’t take it personal) under any illusions.

Eli: Our marriage vows were as long as our marriage supported our realizations and awakening we will stay married and if it didn’t then it would end. And our will was more then tested, because our commitment was deeper than relationship. As long what you are searching for is relationship, you are missing the essential.

Gangaji: It is the beloved you love and it is alive within you.

Eli: When you realize the beloved as your own self, so that everything you want to love out there, you can actually love in here. So that you can actually be loved and love right here without the need for another. And this fulfillment allows for true relationship, with everything. Otherwise the relationship is always dependent on getting something from the outside, either getting love or loving, or needing or wanting to take care of, whatever it is, there is always this unfulfilled something from the outside. So then when you are finished you can find true relationship because you are open, you are not needing anything.

Gangaji: It doesn’t necessarily mean couple relationship, you can find true relationship with an animal, with the world, with the ocean, with a stranger. Because you are fully in relationship. This word relationship is like responsibility. We have certain meaning to it. When actually relationship is actually the nature of self. In form. We are in relationship. But until we discover the fulfillment alone, we misuse our relationships.

You are in relationship. And you discover fully yourself inside yourself, you discover the love that is surrounding you, that is pouring into you. That was overlooked, as you were looking, perhaps, I don’t know whether this is true, for particular form of relationship or look a certain way, be different.

Q: Or is it like an overflow?

Gangaji: An overflow? That’s it an overflow. Yes. This is what we are supporting and inviting. Let yourself overflow. Let yourself out. Come out. It is time to come out. Now. It is the last out. Let it love. May be it was too much for our parents to handle and for the world to handle. But the world is ready and if it is not, it will get ready.

Love is at the core. Love is truth. Thank you for this love.

Why Play is Vital & How it Can Change the Future

Participating as 'Pronoia' for 48 hours in the Signtific Freespace multiplayer online game organized by ETECH was quite an experience. It was exciting to put my imagination in action and interact with many other similarly minded players. It was worth the time, & energy & harnessing my creativity & pronoic spirit to envision the future where Space is as cheap and accessible as the Web is today. Ending up on top of the Leaderboard with a status of a Legend brought big surprise & plenty of Joy too! To find out more about the game.

Paola Antonelli is the design curator at New York's Museum of Modern Art, and a two-time TEDTalks star, with her TED2007 talk "Treating design as art" and her EG'07 talk "Design and the elastic mind," a preview to the 2008 MOMA show of the same name. SEED magazine premieres her next venture, a monthly column. In the first one, called "Core Principles," she lays out the challenge for designers right now:

Design today has to deal with a timely set of priorities and responsibilities: a concern for the environment, an evolved sense of responsibility toward other human beings, new technical advancements in manufacturing and distribution, new ideas about what constitutes privacy and ownership of things and spaces, the immateriality of new forms of design, the interactivity that many objects allow, and the resurgence of local cultures in response to the global market, to name just a few. Yet all design goes back to the same economy of goals and means, an economy that is also an ecology, and which could become the basis for a strong theory. Design is looking for a unified theory — or maybe just for a theory tout court — for, in spite of its permanence and inevitability, it is still a rather unexplored region of human creativity.

Several groups, ranging from economists and bioengineers to Christian creationists, have claimed the word "design" as their own. They might have an etymological right to do so, but they also contribute to the ambiguity surrounding one of the most important and least studied fields of human applied creativity, the process of making things for other people. From chairs to interfaces, from food-delivery trucks to conceptual scenarios on the impact of nanotechnology — design takes into account people's needs and concerns, helping them live better within the broad context of the world; it maximizes the available means to achieve the most satisfying outcome, and produces culture in the process.
